Local area
The site, once a busy holiday camp, is now a quiet residential site. Most chalets and bungalows are owner-occupied full time, with only a few privately owned properties offering holiday accommodation.
There is an on-site shop and café open to the public. Gurnard village is a 10-minute stroll away, and Cowes is a pleasant level walk or short drive from Gurnard Bay, approximately 1½ miles along the coast.
Please be aware that pets are not allowed on site. This rule protects the natural wildlife, including red squirrels, birds, foxes and badgers.
In short, this is a quiet holiday destination suitable for families and mature persons wanting a base for seeing all over the Isle of Wight.
The whole of the Isle of Wight is now a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, recognised for people and the natural environment coexisting harmoniously. Over 50% of the island is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Countless places to eat out and many traditional English pubs. The Woodvale overlooking Gurnard Bay is famous for glorious sunsets and attracts photographers at sundown.
Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde have excellent safe beaches for children. Newport is the main shopping centre. Nearby attractions include Osborne House, Farringford, and the walk from Freshwater to Alum Bay across the Tennyson Downs.
